5 Ways to Support the Food Policy Council

If the adage, “It’s better to give than receive,” resonates, we wanted to share five ways to support the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Food Policy Council this season.

By a membership: Becoming a member of the Food Policy Council helps fund our essential work of education, building relationships in the food system, advocating for policy issues and sharing information about food-related issues.

Membership levels range from $10 for students, farmers and seniors to $1,000 for lifetime supporters; general membership is $25. All CMFPC members receive community updates and newsletters, invitations to meetings and events, and discounts on CMFPC social activities. It’s a great gift for the food and farming advocates on your list.

Shop with Amazon Smile: Your holiday shopping can help benefit the work we do at the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Food Policy Council. Go to Amazon.com and select CMFPC as your charity of choice (we’ve made it easy—just follow this link). Amazon will donate 0.5 percent of the price of your eligible purchases to us. You shop, we benefit.

Support us through Giving Tuesday: Since its inception in 2012, the #GivingTuesday movement has helped elevate the work of local nonprofits. A donation of only $25 provides enough food for our FoodCorps service members to teach a cooking class for 50 elementary school students.

Volunteer: We’re always in need of volunteers with a passion for local food to get involved with CMFPC. An hour of your time would offer a much needed extra set of hands while we are working in CMS classrooms or out in school gardens teaching kids and families about healthy eating and the value of growing your own food. Contact us to learn more about volunteering for CMFPC.

Shop our wish list: If you want to give us a holiday gift, we’ll happily accept. Our Amazon Wish List is filled with items ranging from nursery pots and veggie peelers to a bread maker that will help us spread the word—and the enthusiasm—about the importance of fresh, healthy food in our school gardens and classrooms.

Happy holidays from all of us at CMFPC!
