FoodCorps has been doing great things this fall!

I’ve jumped in—and so has my fellow FoodCorps Service Member Leah Hindel—to teaching cooking lessons and planting garden beds with students.

Teens from Garinger High School’s Occupational Course of Study classes have been volunteering with us at Shamrock Gardens and Barringer Academic Center. They volunteered to earn community hours in conjunction with their curriculum—and they have been a great help, spending every Wednesday preparing the hoop houses at both elementary schools for the upcoming year.

All students have been excited to plant in their refreshed gardens, even the high school students!

Classes at all three schools have been working with the Leah and I to plant everything from radishes to lettuce. The best part of this project is seeing some of the produce from the beds being used for making salads with dressing, relish, and even slaw for their cooking classes at all three schools.

We’ve had a great start to the school year and we’re excited for more to come while serving at their Shamrock, Barringer and Garinger.
